There is no way to concurrently maintain and use a dial-up connection AND make voice or receive calls on one phone line. Note: If you will be communicating in voice to the point which you will be making a data connection to, you MAY b able to speak and transfer data, IF you have the right modem.

On my dial up modem i have never got more than 49.2kbps and in most cases it averages between 46 and 48kbps. This really isn't an XP issue.
